Getting Ready

It’s almost time. With only 14 days to go, things are definitely starting to feel real.

Taking a step back from our jobs is very much a new thing for both of us. We’re embracing it with joy, but also with a lot of respect. For Jess, this period has already started, while Steve is finalising the last few things before saying goodbye to a non stop eight year chapter.

Regarding gear: we’re almost there! The camera is packed. The slightly over engineered data pipeline for all the photos and videos we’ll be taking has been tested using only the iPad, of course. We want to travel light, so no laptops allowed. Thanks to Steve’s paranoia, we’ll have double layer redundancy on that too. If you’re going to do it, you might as well do it right.

The official Japanese translation of the driver’s license has been ordered. Shout out to Jacques, living in Tokyo. Apparently it’s now as easy as going to a konbini and printing it out.

Visas are ready. Just kidding, there were none. Let’s hope ChatGPT didn’t trick us on this one.

The last things to do are pack, grab our passports, and off we go.
